It’s great news that this fund is attracting more investment and demonstrates our commitment to creating an environment where individuals and communities can thrive.Minister for Civil Society,
We are absolutely delighted to be match-funding and continuing our support of excellent work towards the #iwill campaign's ambitious goals.Sir Trevor Pears CMG
Pears Foundation has a long history of supporting young people to get involved in social action through partners such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Girlguiding UK and the Scout Association. The Foundation’s focus has been on ensuring the sustainable growth of high-quality youth social action opportunities through a combination of long-term, core funding alongside supporting research, pilots and place-based learning projects.
This focus on increasing opportunities across the sector led to the Foundation taking a lead role in the #iwill campaign that aims to make social action part of life for as many 10 to 20 year-olds as possible in the UK by the year 2020. Through collaboration and partnership #iwill is spreading the word about the benefits of youth social action and working to embed it in the journey of young people and create fresh opportunities for participation. Launched in 2013, the campaign is being coordinated by the charity Step Up To Serve.
In addition to providing core funding for Step up to Serve, Pears Foundation has pledged to increase its investments in the sector to help the #iwill campaign meet its goal. In 2015, the Foundation successfully trialled match-funding with Government in this area to create the National Youth Social Action Fund, and is now partnering with the #iwill Fund, a £50 million joint commitment of seed funding established by the Government and Big Lottery Fund in 2016. Alongside match-funds from Comic Relief and UK Community Foundations, the Foundation has made a new commitment of £4 million to match-fund the #iwill Fund over four years.
The Pears #iwill Fund is currently supporting the creation of new youth social action opportunities in the areas of health and social care and education, as well as continuing to identify and fund initiatives that can sustain and support the sector in the long-term. Further details regarding the Foundation’s distribution of the #iwill Fund in health and social care is available here.
