The Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People
World-leading mental health care for children and young people
The collaboration between the King’s Maudsley Partnership and Pears Foundation will transform the way we understand, prevent and treat young people’s mental illness. Pears’ support for the ground-breaking new Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People will revolutionise treatments. Bringing together researchers and clinicians under one roof will accelerate discoveries into the causes of mental health challenges, allowing us to build a new generation of interventions and treatments, personalised to each child. Pears' support, engagement and dedication to our shared values of promoting children's social and emotional wellbeing has been critical in making this new building a reality and will improve the lives of children and their families for generations to come.Professor Philip Shaw, Director, The King’s Maudsley Partnership
Mental health has for too long been stigmatised and underfunded, often leaving people struggling to access the right support. The good news is that this is now changing, but much more needs to be done. Building capability and capacity in the sector is critical. Our goal is to enable a substantial increase in high quality research and training, which is why we are delighted to be supporting the Maudsley and this wonderful new centre.Sir Trevor Pears

Supporting children and young people with mental health difficulties requires more than excellent clinical care. Lasting progress depends on bringing together research, education and clinical practice to drive innovations in care and treatment.
Pears Foundation has partnered with King’s College London, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Maudsley Charity to create the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People, bringing together four organisations with a shared ambition to transform children’s mental health.
The Centre, which opened in 2026, brings together the world’s leading experts in children’s mental health in a single purpose-built facility. By enabling clinicians and researchers to work more closely together, it accelerates discoveries and translates research and evidence more quickly into improved care and treatment for children, young people and their families.
Our lead gift helped make the Centre a reality and was followed by further support for its Clinical Research Facility, enabling researchers to use cutting-edge technologies to better understand brain development and behaviour. The Centre is also home to the Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School, ensuring that young people receiving inpatient care can continue their education during treatment.
Alongside capital investment, we have supported research through the Rosetrees Pears Chair of Bioinformatics and, through the Pears #iwill Fund, helped create new youth volunteering opportunities at the Maudsley including an innovative peer support scheme for young people experiencing mental health difficulties.
Together, these investments reflect our belief that lasting progress in children’s mental health depends on long-term partnerships that strengthen research, clinical care and the wider systems that support young people and their families.
