The following case studies illustrate the breadth and depth of our partnerships and represent just a small sample of a diverse and varied programme of funding.
NHS Trusts: Young Volunteer Programmes
Volunteers are essential in supporting the smooth running of the NHS. They add value to services, enhance patient experience, support staff, and improve care. When young people volunteer, they bring something special to patients and services, as well as developing their own skills, confidence, wellbeing and career opportunities.
Through the Pears #iwill Fund, in partnership with The National Lottery Community Fund and DCMS, we have joined forces with NHS England and NHS Improvement to grow youth volunteering across health and care services as part of the NHS 70th birthday year. Working with NHS Trusts and their respective charities, we are seed funding youth volunteer coordinators in sites across England, aiming to embed high-quality, inclusive and sustainable opportunities for young people to engage with their local NHS Trust in a variety of roles.
The first six sites were launched at NHS Expo in 2017, and since then we have continued to recruit NHS Trusts keen to engage with young people in their communities. All the NHS Trusts supported through the Pears #iwill Fund have joined a Peer Learning Network, convened and facilitated by the Institute for Voluntary Action Research, to inform practice and support learning across the programme.
We are currently working with: Airedale NHS Foundation Trust FT, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS FT, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS FT, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS FT, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS FT, Dorset County Hospital NHS FT, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS FT, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Manchester University NHS FT, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, North West Anglia NHS FT, Northumbria Healthcare NHS FT, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS FT, Royal Free NHS FT, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, South London and Maudsley NHS FT, University College London Hospitals NHS FT, University Hospitals Bristol NHS FT, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, University Hospital Southampton NHS FT, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Torbay and South Devon NHS FT, Yeovil District Hospital NHS FT.
