Huge congratulations from the Pears Foundation team.

12th March 2020

We are so pleased to share the news that Kay, a young volunteer at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, won a gold award in the national BBC Young Reporter of the year competition.

On accepting the award, Kay said, “When you’ve got mental health (issues), you think about yourself, and by giving your time to others such as volunteering in community projects, you’re thinking about others and not focusing on yourself so much.”

Kay told her story about how volunteering in the community has helped with her mental health on BBC Radio 4, Woman’s Hour today and you can listen to the programme here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000g3f9

As well as being a University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust volunteer, Kay is also a member of the Youth Involvement Group and an ambassador for the #iwill campaign.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust are just one of the 30 NHS Trust’s we are funding to develop and embed their young volunteer programmes through the Pears #iwill Fund, further details are available here.
