The Art of Gathering
Pears Hub
Wednesday 24 June
10am – 12.30pm, followed by lunch (lunch provided)
Location: Pears Hub
Facilitator: Shoshana Boyd Gelfand, Pears Foundation’s Director of Leadership and Learning
Powerful gatherings don’t happen by magic; they require thoughtful preparation. What is the purpose of the gathering? Who should be invited? What kind of structure will create the atmosphere you want?
This is particularly important for fundraising and development teams as they create gatherings to connect stakeholders and donors to the organisation and its mission. Whether it is an annual fundraising dinner or a site visit for a valued donor, it is crucial to consider the deeper purpose of these encounters rather than simply following a script.
In this ‘Pears Professional Development Toolbox’ workshop, Shoshana will present insights from Priya Parker, a pioneer in the field of group dynamics. We will explore her framework for creating meaningful gatherings, including identifying purpose, preparing participants, crafting a strong opening and closing well.
Participants will then apply this framework to plan a gathering of their own, so please come with one — or a few — in mind. The model can be used for gatherings of any size, from a fundraising event to a staff away day or your annual Christmas party.
Who is it for?
The workshop is open to all, and participants at any level of experience or seniority are welcome. It will be of particular interest to those responsible for event planning, but the principles can be applied to any type of gathering, including a staff meeting or away day.
