Technical Skills Training

For most technical skills training, we recommend using existing providers who have experience of delivering within the voluntary sector. Our programme focuses on issues where we feel we can add value by creating a bespoke workshop tailored for Pears partners.

Our technical skills workshops are delivered by a carefully selected team of external facilitators who have been briefed about the needs of Pears grantees. In addition to ensuring the quality of the instructors, this allows us to tailor the content to our grantees or convene a particular sector or audience. The workshops also provide a valuable opportunity for our partners to meet and learn from each other.

Finance for Non-Finance Professionals

We have partnered with HW Fisher Accountants to develop a Finance for Non-Finance Professionals course. The course is run over two half-days and is targeted at small to medium charity professionals who have financial responsibilities and need to understand and interpret financial information but who have little or no previous financial experience.  Participants learn key finance terminology, the essential financial, legal and operational information that is needed as part of financial reporting and how to interpret their organisation’s financial documents.

Introduction to Project Management

This workshop is designed to introduce attendees to the concepts around project management and provide them with a framework to use so that they will become more confident when managing their own projects.

The course is particularly aimed at junior members of staff who need to understand the fundamentals of project management but do not need training in a detailed project management methodology.

HR for Non-HR Specialists

Personnel issues can be particularly complex for CEOs and trustees to navigate. From ensuring that an organisation has the correct policies in place, to understanding the necessary process to follow when dealing with challenging staffing situations, it is vital that senior staff and trustees understand their fundamental responsibilities and know how to identify and manage HR issues.

We developed two workshops to meet specific needs that we have identified across our network.

The Fundamentals

This is an introductory level half-day session aimed at anyone with HR responsibilities in their organisation. Participants learn about the fundamentals of the legal framework around HR, best practice, policies and procedures and the importance of record keeping so that they can gain confidence handling HR issues within their organisation.

Managing Difficult Situations

This half-day workshop is targeted at senior managers and includes issues such as handling difficult behaviour, understanding how to differentiate between conduct and capability and managing performance issues.
