Facilitator: Shoshana Boyd Gelfand With Christmas and the holidays approaching, we will all be thinking about gatherings, whether work-related drinks or a family get together. Powerful gatherings don’t happen by magic; they require thoughtful preparation: what is the purpose of the gathering, who should be invited, and what kind of structures (in time and space) will create the kind of atmosphere you want? This workshop presents some of the insights of Priya Parker, a pioneer in the field of group dynamics. We will explore her framework for creating meaningful gatherings including identifying the purpose of the gathering, preparing the participants for the experience, crafting a powerful opening moment and closing the gathering well. Workshop participants will then apply this framework to plan a gathering of their own and create an outline plan for it, so please come with one in mind. The model can be used for gatherings of any size from a fundraising event or a seminar or roundtable to a staff away day or your annual Christmas party. Who is it for? The workshop is open to all staff at Pears funded organisations and participants at any level of experience/seniority are welcome.  It will be of particular interest to those who are responsible for event planning but the principles can be applied to any type of gathering, even a simple staff meeting.
